THE MOVIE & THE BOOK

So starting off there's a big difference. The book starts off with the introduction of M. Myriel and later moves on to the real protagonist Jean released from prison and heads to his old city. The movie however, starts off with a scene of prisoners doing labor in a boat along with Jean. Later on now it starts to have the similarity of Jean struggling to eat and sleep because the city outcasts. It does skip the part of the woman and man kicking him out and goes to M. Myriel inviting him for food. We didn't read the whole Book 2 but we did know that Jean was eventually gonna steal silver from M.Myriel, gets caught, but Myriel forgives and makes him keep the silver. YOU'RE SO HUMBLE MYRIEL. This caused Jean to reflect on his actions and wanting to change for the better now. This is how I imagined the movie to be like. It's a bit fast but only focuses on important parts, skipping the Myriel Intro and additional scenes from the book. The movie then focuses on another character who's a female (Faunti) and it seems like her teammates hated her so they ganged up and got her fired from her job. Reason? She wanted to earn more money for her illegitimate child. The inspector then comes in and that's when the conflict rises, because he does not care for anything. All these characters are being abused :(, very depressing but interesting movie. 10/10 recommend.
