Les Mis Part 1 Summary

 What I've Learned

Nothing lol, (JKJK). So the book begins with a brief description of M. Myriel. He was born into an aristocratic family in 1740 but had to flee to Italy due to the French Revolution that happened in 1789. Years passed and he returned to his homeland as a simple priest. He then encounters Emperor Napoleon in 1806 and leads Myriel's appointment as bishop of Digne. After being appointed and moves to Digne, he realizes that the church provided him and his family a well eighteenth-century palace, which ia what most bishops are given.

The journey then begins with Myriel noticing the hospital next to his palace. He sees how it's cramped and in very horrible conditions. With the good heart he has, he decides to exchange his palace to the doctors for their small hospital. Myriel then gives the majority of his church money to the city's poorest citizens, charities in Paris, etc. Even when people criticize, he still continues to be humble and gentle.

M. Myriel defended those who were poor and argued that the reason why criminls steal is to survive the hunger they don't want to suffer. He's also urged the rich to at least give a bit for the need (of course some lying is need to be poked to make this happen). During all of his efforts, he's earned the nickname "Bienvenu" which means "welcome", not a bad nickname if I do say so myself. In one word to describe this fictional man, humble.

Q. We all encounter emergencies-- illness, earthquakes, stalled cars, the occasional zombie apocalypses-- so what can you do to be prepared? Describe planning or training for something that might actually happen.

A. You can simply watch tutorials every now and then on YouTube to prepare your family and self for any occasion. I doubt any one still has this yellow book docs would give to mothers when they gave birth but it has tutorials such as taking care of a kid when sick.

Q. As the old saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." Why do you think first impressions are so important? Why do you think first impressions are so important? What do you think are the keys to making a good impression?

A. First off, it's important to make a good impression to people or someone because how you show your attitudes (positive or negative) towards them that person can go ahead and spread how well of a person you are to others. The keys on making good impression is by obviously introducing yourself and complimenting them.

Q.  Describe your day.

A. It was alright. Momma was in a bad mood for an unknown reason and it affected my brother and I. But she left to the store with mimis (my little sister) and the aura went away. She came back in a better mood and ate chips with us.

Les Mis Today

 Connections

One connection with the book and the modern world is the rich people. In one of the early chapters (yes I forgot which one), M. Myriel talked to an aristocrat who never and refused to give to the poor. M. Myriel found this disappointing and decided to trick him in saying that God would let him into paradise if he helped those in need. Of course he fell for it, but the guy only gave 1 coin. ONE. This part of the story connects still with our rich people. Not just here in America, almost everywhere there will always be a rich person who would never help those in need and just swim in their money. Unless told that if they do it, they'll be rewarded. Sad if you ask me. They expect to be rewarded just for doing something someone needs more than them. A second connection is the citizens of course. When M. Myriel arrived to a city with a donkey instead of a fancy carriage, everyone was confused and laughed. Well still happens today. When we see something strange, our first thought is 'what?' and give a funny look to the scene. Like today for me, I was walking down main street and I see a pink police car. Pink. Now ain't that curious and...weird? It's as if it were to go to Barbie's house or sum. Last connection is the setting. In the first chapter we were told that M. Myriel lived in a humungous house that can fill hundreds of people while a hospital was built to only have a family of 4. The staff and Myriel switched because of his humbleness but we've seen how important facilities (such as Hospitals, school, etc) are more smaller than another building that should initiate to be the same size as it. Not only the size, but conditions can be poor as well. We may not have it here in our country but like in Africa, they're the ones who need more of our buildings.

 Last Impression For Book 1

I'm literally disappointed that the Bishop was not the protagonist after all. :( Very humble and wise man. Let's hope that this inmate protagonist is a good one. (So far he's interesting)

Les Mis (Book 2) Ch 1

The protagonist was a former inmate from prison, just released and heading back to his old city. Entering, he's already getting eyed and hearing mumbles from the others. Since his energy was wasted from walking, he tries to find a bit of supper and a place to sleep. Of course it's hard for him from the first impression he has made for the others, rejecting his pleas and humbleness. The man gives up and tries to sleep in a stoned bench until a friendly woman asks him what has happened while giving him some left over money. And there the story stops, until now. Yoi tsuitachi.

Few comments I've gotten but every single one counts :^)

Literature Analysis (Fiction)

 The Good Earth

(By Pearl S. Buck)

1. The plot is about how a man (Wang Lung) went from rags to riches from the help of his wife (O-lan), but loses it all at the end.

2. The theme of this novel would be cooperation. Both work tirelessly to reach their goal, becoming wealthy.

3. Based on the tone of the author, I assume she's an early bird. Tea would be her favorite drink in the morning. Probably meditates before she writes what's on her mind, or a new novel. Her breakfast would be something light, like salad or white rice. That's how I envision the author.

4. Simile- A figure of speech that directly compares two things. Similes differ from the metaphors by highlights the similarities between two things using words such as "like" or "as".

Metaphor- A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

Imagery- Visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in literary work.

Flashbacks- A literary device wherein the author depicts the occurrence of specific events to the reader, which have taken place before the present time the narration is following, or events that have happened before the events that are currently unfolding in the story

Foreshadowing- A literary device in which an author gives an advance hint of what is to come later in the story.

"She clutched them greedily as a child might & held them in her hand without speech" (Ch 1, Pg. 19).

"Within the temple snugly under the roof sat two small, solemn figures...they wore robes of red & gilt paper, and the god had a scant, drooping moustache of real hair" (Ch 1 Pg. 20)

"Well, and they must all starve if the plants starve" (Ch 8 Pg. 68).

________________

1. It was around 8th grade that I was learning a bit of Chinese history. It was so interesting that I went to our school library to see if there were any Chinese related fic/non-fic books. I found The Good Earth and reading from the description I hoped to experience the life of an Asian person. Very good book I recommend it! A lot of imagery.

2. The male protagonist, Wang Lung, was getting ready to pick his wife from the great family's house. He went to the barber to get a fresh hair cut. Apparently ears and nostrils were cleaned too but due to him being poor only one of each was clean.

3. I love reading big books as long as the story is interesting. Thin books are meh now. I recommend to my classmates or anyone that in cloudy/rainy days you make yourself your favorite coffee and eat those Maria cookies while reading your favorite book :^).

Les Mis #13

 First Impression

It's sweet how the Bishop has big love for everyone despite the person's rank. I also love how the people acknowledge his love. "He's a good fellow." "A fine man."

A. First off, when the 2016 elections came and the Russians interfered Trump and his campaigne didn't say anything. Now with the legal votes here, they're calling it fraud just because he lost.

Les Mis #12

 First Impression

Genuinely feel bad for Monseigneur Bienvenu. The beginning starts off of how Bishops and Princes are always escorted with the finest officers and chariots. Meanwhile Bienvenu is like poor but still humble. Give this man at least a chariot.

Les Mis #11

 First Impression

This chapter was a bit confusing but my guy really said started at square 1 and now I'm top bois and still humble. HE WOULD COMPLIMENT SUCH SIMPLE FURNITURE BECAUSE HE WAS POOR (M.MYRIEL).
